Regional Programme Development Day for Athletes (2013)

Introducing the Regional Programme and the Skills Academy!

Open to all Swim Ireland club members born in 2013, who are competing in the Future Challenger Series.

Discover how the region supports young athletes in their development into age group swimming at the Regional Programme Development Day on Saturday 22 February 2025 at UL Sport Arena, Limerick, from 13:30 to 16:30.

Swimmers can expect to learn more about the Regional Programmes and the Competition Pathway, before diving into a pool clinic that explores effective stroke development.

Regional Programme Halloween Training Camp 2024

The three-day Halloween training camp for Regional Development Programme Stage 2 and Regional Pathway Programme took place over the October Bank Holiday weekend in Limerick.

Joined by Munster athletes, we enjoyed a full weekend with four pool sessions of technical work and video analysis, swim-specific strength and conditioning, and two workshops on sports psychology and sports nutrition.

Working with the team were S&C Coach, Ronan Costelloe; Sports Psychologist, Kate O’Farrell and Sports Nutritionist, Joanne Shaughnessy.

Huge thanks to all the home programme coaches and team managers involved.

Regional Programme Athletes 2024-25

Congratulations to the 52 athletes selected to join Connacht’s Regional Programme for the 2024-25 season.

Based on their results from last season’s identified meets, 31 athletes were invited to the Regional Skills Academy; 12 athletes to the Regional Development Programme Stage 1; eight athletes to the Regional Development Programme Stage 2 and one athlete to the Regional Pathway Programme.

The Regional Programme supports athletes working towards selection into the National Programme while increasing depth of competition within the Region.

Swimmers can expect to learn more about the Regional Programmes and the Competition Pathway, before diving into a dry land workshop and pool clinic that explores effective stroke development.

Skills Academy Inter-Provincial Meet 2024

Congratulations to the Connacht Regional Skills Academy who competed yesterday at the Skills Academy Inter-Provincial Meet 2024 in Dublin.

Following the racing, the athletes enjoyed a ‘meet and greet’ with former member of the Skills Academy programme, Róisín Ní Ríain – World Para Swimming World Champion, double World Para Swimming European Champion and World Record holder!

The team then went on to enjoy the finals of the Irish Open Championships and Olympic Trials.

Thank you to our wonderful volunteer team staff and officials… Noel Barrett, Elaine Walsh Lally, Sara Lannon and Paul McGoldrick and Rick Geraghty. Well done everyone!

The team dived into the Regional Skills Academy Orientation Day at UL Sport Arena in Limerick on Saturday 7 October 2023 – where they worked with S&C Coaches, Ronan Costelloe and Piotr Romaniewics; Sports Psychologist, Kate O’Farrell and NCL athletes, Maria Godden and Roisin Ni Riain.

Regional Skills Academy Development Camp for Athletes (2012)

To support young athletes in their development into age group swimming, Swim Ireland club members (born 2012) are invited to join the team to experience a day on the Regional Programme at the Connacht Regional Skills Academy Development Camp this September 2023.

We introduce the structure of the Competition Pathway and the Regional Programmes, before diving into a dry land workshop and pool clinic to explore effective stroke development.

The Connacht Skills Academy Development Camp takes place on Sunday 17 September 2023 at The Complex at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar from 13:00 to 16:30.

Regional Skills Academy Development Camp

To support young athletes in their development into age group swimming, we invite 12 year-old members (born 2011) to come along and experience what the Regional Programme offers.

Swim Connacht Skills Academy Development Camp takes place on Sunday 4 June 2023 at The Complex at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar from 13:00 to 16:30.

We begin with a short presentation for athletes and their parents, introducing the structure of the competition pathway and regional programmes. Athletes will then enjoy two sessions – a strength and conditioning workshop and a pool clinic focussing on effective stroke development.
